Times Change, Values Don't
Happy New Year and welcome to 2012. Wow, can you believe that… 2012! The “Year of the Dragon” for our friends celebrating the Chinese New Year. Time does indeed fly by. I started my job with TEAM A.T.E. in 2000. The big worry back then was Y2K, and if our computers would work on January 1st. Now, twelve years later and about as many pounds heavier, I think about the many changes we’ve seen not only in our industry, but in our world, and I wonder about the changes to come.
In 2000 the majority of our business here at TEAM A.T.E. was done domestically. Certainly not all, but probably 70% of all the systems we sold were shipped somewhere in North America, and the rest to other parts of the world. Today that number is roughly reversed. We’ve seen a migration of test and manufacturing to overseas facilities, and maybe before too long may see it start to come back again. When I first started at TEAM A.T.E. we had only our Denver, Colorado facility. In roughly a decade we’ve opened facilities in Taiwan, Singapore and China to best serve our growing customer base in Asia, and we’ve added sales people in Mexico as that market continues to grow.
Like us, I’m sure many of you have experienced some fairly significant changes within the companies you work for. It has been a very rocky decade in the stock market, as we are all too well aware. Our industry was hit especially hard. Companies have been forced to adapt and evolve in order to stay competitive, and to stay in business. Like many of you, TEAM A.T.E. has made significant changes over the years to differentiate ourselves from the competition. We continually try to think ahead and implement changes that help us best serve you, our customer. We don’t want to be viewed as “just another dealer” in your eyes. Our goal is to add value for you, not just make a sale.
One thing that hasn’t changed in all the years I’ve been here….and won’t change in the future, are our core values. Creativity. Honesty. Performance. These principles are very important to us, and hopefully we demonstrate them to you when we work together. We try to structure deals in a way that makes sound economic sense not just in the short term, but for the future as well. If you are interested in selling your surplus test equipment we will provide you with an accurate opinion of value and marketability. Most importantly we will be honest in how we represent equipment, how we work to bring the deal together, and how we stand behind what we sell.
If you haven’t worked with TEAM A.T.E. before, please give us the opportunity to earn your business in 2012. I’m sure we’ll continue to see plenty of ups and downs and a few surprises in this New Year. In equipment purchasing making the best use of limited capital dollars will be critical, and we’d like to help in those decisions.
