It may be hot, but there’s work to be done

As I write this Denver is experience its 20th straight day with temperatures in the 90’s.  Now I know this is not as hot or humid as some of you are living with, but for us it is unusually toasty.   Many of you are seeing consecutive days in the triple digit temperatures, with no end in sight.  I fear we are in the middle of “the dog days of summer” as they call it.  It’s difficult to be comfortable outdoors, and even in the shade it is often sweltering.

It is tempting to stay idle during times like this.  After all, it is much more comfortable sitting inside with the air conditioning blowing instead of going outside and exercising or getting home projects done.   However, before too long the weather will be changing and we will be talking about snow and cold in our part of the world.  We’ll wish all those projects we kept putting off all summer had been completed.  It is times like this when it easy to get complacent and simply go through the motions, instead of continuing to work towards a goal.

The same principle applies to our work.  The economy is still slow, forecasts seem to be softening for many customers, and there just isn’t that sense of urgency we’re so used to.   Thoughts are often on vacation rather than what needs to get done.  It is easy to “go through the motions” and relax a little rather than pressing on to accomplish things that often get pushed aside when times are busy.

I know many companies are in the process of reviewing their forecasts for the rest of the year, and starting to develop requirements for 2012.   Some sectors in our industry remain very strong, while others are slowing a bit.  Whatever your situation might be, it is imperative that you plan accurately now in order to meet upcoming increases or decreases in capacity requirements.   The used equipment market can be a key asset in this planning.  Take a moment to review the equipment listings in this month’s newsletter.  If you see something interesting, just reply or give us a call.  We have many popular testers, handlers and probers available at attractive pricing.  If you need a particular configuration, let us know.  Often times we can re-configure a tester to meet your unique requirement.  We can also provide tailored rental options to help you through capacity crunches.

Remember, the key is being proactive in your planning….not reacting after the fact.   Even though we are indeed in the “dog days of summer”, fall will be here before we know it.   We’re all familiar with the cycles of our industry, and the same holds true for the economy.  The downturns always end, and we best be prepared to capitalize on the opportunity that presents.   The seeds we sow now when it is hot and dry can produce a nice harvest when the rains do come.

As you develop your forecasts for the remainder of this year and in to 2012, be sure to include TEAM A.T.E. in the process.  We can help provide system values and availability, as well as offer options you may not have considered.  Our staff is dedicated to understanding your unique requirements, and providing solutions to meet them.  I know we all may be tired of tired of a hot, humid summer, but storms and cold will arrive sooner than we might think.  Let’s make sure we are prepared.

-Greg Wendell, Account Manager
